Hood Canal Bridge is Too Noisy

From The News Tribune: http://www.thenewstribune.com/2010/05/30/1206205/neighbors-complain-about-hood.html Hood Canal Bridge backups have grown with required testing after the draw span replacement project. Also, noise has grown from the new expansion joints, similar to issues experienced with the new Tacoma Narrows Bridge. Ben

National Register House in Bellevue in Path of East Link

From The Seattle Times: http://seattletimes.nwsource.com/html/localnews/2011972751_wintershouse28m.html The historic Winters House in Bellevue lies in the proposed path for East Link. A potential solution may be to place the tracks in a retained cut; basically a trench with a lid. Ben

Special Bridge Design for Nalley Valley Viaduct Project

From The News Tribune: http://www.thenewstribune.com/2010/05/23/1197496/a-first-in-bridge-design.html This cantelievered approach to building the offramp from Northbound Interstate 5 to Westbound SR 16 will be similar to how Skytrain and the bridge over I-5 for Seattle Link were built. This is a very innovative way to bridge a major freeway without having to shut it down. It will be very [...]

Widespread Tolling Expected for Puget Sound

From The News Tribune: http://www.wsdot.wa.gov/Projects/Viaduct/ The Puget Sound Regional Councils Transportation 2040 plan recommends that the core freeway system be tolled to cover the cost of projects. They also recommend that the fuel tax should be replaced with a tax based on miles traveled. While I know the idea of tolls and taxes are distasteful, [...]

Puyallup Uses Fair Parking Lot for Sounder Users

From The News Tribune: http://www.thenewstribune.com/2010/05/18/1190542/fair-parking-lot-will-see-transit.html This project will pave one of the Puyallup Fairs parking lots for use by Sounder riders. The current lots at the station fill up early, especially as Sounder use increases. This is a great public-private partnership. Most of the lots at the Fair are lightly used at best outside of [...]

Pay Parking Coming to Downtown Tacoma

From KIRO-TV: http://www.kirotv.com/news/23605925/detail.html Downtown Tacoma will be adding automated pay stations, similar to those used in Seattle. The reasoning is that people who work downtown are taking up spaces that could be used by retail customers. Good thing that Tacoma has a free rail system downtown that connects with a free garage outside of downtown. [...]

Sea-Tac Airport Provides Game Day Parking

From The News Tribune: http://blog.thenewstribune.com/business/2010/05/17/sea-tac-again-offering-parking-discounts-for-mariner-sounder-games/ The airport will now charge $2 a hour for parking on game days. Given that the light rail station is a block from the stadium, where parking can cost $20 and up, this could be a deal. Ben

Screen Planned on I-5 Bridge

From The News Tribune: http://www.thenewstribune.com/2010/05/15/1187311/screen-planned-over-i-5-bridge.html This will be a screen on the Capitol Boulevard bridge in Olympia, WA, similar to the fence on the Aurora Bridge in Seattle, to prevent suicides. Ben
