Washington Congestion Has Dropped

From WSDOT: http://www.wsdot.wa.gov/News/2010/11/24_2010CongestionReport.htm Fewer delays and less congestion due to completed road projects and the recession. Almost one hour less congestion as compared to 2007. I noticed this myself where the drive from Fife to Redmond used to take about 90 minutes, but had dropped to 60 minutes after the recession started. Why Trains are Better Than Buses

I took the Sounder commuter rail today since I knew it would be bad weather. I also left early, as I wanted to make sure I could get home from the Sounder station. The train out of Seattle was standing room only. The train ran on time both directions, whereas the buses were stuck in [...]

WSDOT Says 520 Tolls Will Reduce Traffic; DIdn’t Work on the Bay Bridge

From KIRO-TV: http://www.kirotv.com/news/25832569/detail.html While WSDOT believes that adding tolls to the SR 520 Floating Bridge will reduce traffic, tolling has not reduced traffic much on San Francisco’s Bay Bridge. It should be noted, however, that there are no real alternatives to the Bay Bridge except for BART; whereas there are multiple alternatives to SR 520. [...]

From The Seattle Times: http://seattletimes.nwsource.com/html/politicsnorthwest/2013399990_leaders_still_have_the_hots_to.html The state is still eyeing building High Occupancy/Toll Lanes on Interstate 405. The idea has merit: the money just doesn’t exist for a full expansion of the freeway. Remember too this is the ONLY route to the biggest employers in Washington, with nothing other than express buses (also on the [...]

Smart Signs Help Crashes, But Not Travel Times

From The Seattle Times: http://seattletimes.nwsource.com/html/localnews/2013373837_smartsigns08m.html While the commute into downtown Seattle is still slow, the amount of accidents appears to have gone down. Which is the real purpose of these signs. And again, they have been shown to work in Europe. More: http://www.wsdot.wa.gov/smarterhighways/ http://www.pugetsoundtransportation.com/its/ Ben
