As to the rivers… Puyallup: High and flowing fast but OK White at Algona-Pacific: about 2 feet from the top of the levee Green near Kent: About [...]

Washington Gets More High Speed Rail Funding

From WSDOT: http://www.wsdot.wa.gov/News/2010/12/09_HighSpeedRailFundingAward.htm WSDOT will receive another $161 million in funding for high speed rail projects. This funding was redirected from canceled projects in other states. Their loss our gain I guess. This is great news as the Amtrak Cascades continues to see record ridership. With upgrades perhaps one day soon they will be able [...]

WSDOT Prepared For Snow With New Sanders

From WSDOT: http://www.wsdot.wa.gov/News/2010/12/WSDOTPreparesForNextStorm.htm WSDOT has converted eight pickup trucks into mini sanders for the next major snowstorm. The idea is that the pickups are more maneuverable, and can get into tighter areas easier than the fullsize pickups. We will see if this works, if it snows again… Ben

East Link Engineering Contract Awarded

From The Seattle P-I: http://www.seattlepi.com/sound/431411_sound111481719.html The Bellevue City Council awarded a contract for planning their preferred alternative through South Bellevue. While it is good the project is moving forward, I am unsure if this is the best routing for ridership and moving people through the community. More on the possible routes: http://projects.soundtransit.org/Projects-Home/East-Link-Project.xml Ben

New SR 520 Lanes Open Early

From WSDOT: http://www.wsdot.wa.gov/News/2010/12/NewSR520LanesInRedmond.htm The addition of lanes between West Lake Samamish Parkway and SR 202 is now complete. This is great news, as this section of SR 520 is always heavily congested. Now all we need is the completion of the Eastside Corridor and the new SR 520 Floating Bridge and we’ll be set. Ben

Emergency Response Vehicles and Tacoma Narrows Bridge Tolls

WSDOT has a response to September’s incident involving a Jefferson County ambulance and the Narrows Bridge. While I understand the reasonings for WSDOT to suggest getting a Good to Go pass, it does seem a bit unreasonable. While perhaps this particular case could be expected (not many hospitals on the Olympic Pennisula) it is not [...]

WSDOT and State Patrol Snow Strategies

From WSDOT: http://www.wsdot.wa.gov/News/2010/12/1_newstrategiesforsnowiceresponse.htm After issues seen during the Thanksgiving Week snow, WSDOT will now deploy priority teams consisting of a snowplow and WSP car to major incidents during snow. Also, WSDOT will be converting some pickup trucks into mini sanders, as they can be more maneuverable. Hopefully this will eliminate some of the incidents we [...]
