Pierce Transit in Crisis

Pierce Transit is looking for a very small hike in the sales tax to continue service. If they can’t pass it, then they will have to drastically cut service, including special event service such as to Freedom Fair and the Puyallup Fair.
Not that there aren’t issues with the way things are run, as there are in any company public, private or government, but they have been trying to make cuts. This is the flaw of funding things using a sales tax; it works fine when people have money for expensive computers and TV’s, not so much when people don’t.
This would be bad if it doesn’t pass. Losing the special event service itself will undoubtedly kill Freedom Fair and definitely impact the Puyallup Fair as well.
Its not that much. Let’s pass it.

More on the costs, related in large part to benefits and wages. Again, not that there can’t be cuts there, but let’s be honest. How many of you are sticking around when the economy gets better if your wages and benefits have been cut? And how will losing your experience hurt your companies? And its one thing in a job to have unexperienced untrained people. But I’d rather not have them driving my bus.
