Pierce Transit Service Cuts are Permanent

From The News Tribune:

Emergency transit cuts instituted after the fueling station explosion earlier this month will now be permanent. Due to the failure of a small tax increase service was planned to be cut anyway. Since it appears that it will take several months to replace the fueling station the decision was made to implement the cuts now.

This is unfortunate news. With the price of gas going up and population continuing to increase public transportation is a vital part of the transportation picture.

But again this shows why variable taxes, such as sales and the gas tax, are a bad idea. They work well when people have money to spend, they fail when they don’t.

A new funding source and/or method must be found in this state.
