Bellevue City Council Urged to Finalize Light Rail Route

From The Seattle Times: http://seattletimes.nwsource.com/html/localnews/2015095711_railletter20m.html Executives of Microsoft, Boeing and other major corporations and organizations are urging the Bellevue City Council to quickly select a light rail route in South Bellevue. The routing decision has been very contentious. This makes sense, as the light rail line will serve these employers, and has been needed on [...]

Federal Way Upset About Light Rail Extension Cuts

From The News Tribune: http://www.komonews.com/news/local/122267779.html Sound Transit is now saying that due to income shortfalls, the extension of light rail to Federal Way may not happen until 2034, if at all. As one may expect, this has angered many in the city. While this route does duplicate the route of the Sounder, the Sounder runs [...]

Delay for Federal Way Light Rail?

From The News Tribune: http://www.thenewstribune.com/2011/05/19/1671018/light-rail-to-fway-delayed.html With the probable delay of extending light rail South to Federal Way, the only delayed project so far from Sound Transit 2, the city is looking for legal options. This also means it is unlikely to reach all the way to Tacoma as well. While I understand the funding issues [...]

South Lake Union Employers to Fund Increased Streetcar Service

From The Seattle Times: http://seattletimes.nwsource.com/html/localnews/2015090224_streetcar19m.html Ridership has grown dramatically on the South Lake Union Streetcar, especially with the opening of the Amazon campus. Employers are willing to fund increased late afternoon service to support these commuters. It is interesting; when this line was constructed it was seen as an expensive toy. Yet it is now [...]

Attempted Suicide On the Tracks

Speeding Up the Cascades

From The News Tribune: http://www.thenewstribune.com/2011/05/16/1667879/speeding-up-seattle-to-portland.html Washington has received over $750 million for high speed rail projects in the Puget Sound corridor. While most stretches of the route won’t reach true 100+mph speeds, eliminating delays and laying the groundwork for future improvements will only help. Ben

New Revenue Stream Needed for Transportation Projects

From KOMO-TV: http://www.komonews.com/news/local/121965489.html Due to the amount of expansion projects and upkeep needed in Washington, coupled with lower tax collections from the gas tax, alternate funding sources will be needed for major transportation initiatives in the future. I have said this for awhile. In a state with much of the population sandwiched between mountains and [...]

Ferry Salish Added to Fleet

From WSDOT: http://www.wsdot.wa.gov/News/2011/05/12_SalishDelivery.htm The state’s newest ferry, the Salish, has passed inspection and will be added to the Port Townsend/Coupeville run. These ferries were required after the former Steel Electric class boats had to be pulled from service. Ben

I-5 South HOV Lane to Close For 10 Days at SR 18

From WSDOT: http://www.wsdot.wa.gov/News/2011/05/12_i5HOVclosure.htm To perform some work for the SR 18 Interchange Project the Southbound I-5 HOV lane will be closed from May 13 – May 23. This will unfortunately worsen traffic in the area; however the results of this project will be worth it. Ben
