Anti-Toll Initiative Rejected

Initiative 1125, which would have taken the setting of tolling rates from the tolling committee and passed it to the legislature, among several other measures, has failed.
This is a good thing as letting the legislature set tolls would be a nightmare. We have already seen what political gridlock does. Furthermore, things like variable tolling, which also would have been blocked, are effective ways to manage traffic and utilize our road system.
The initiative also would have blocked light rail on I-90. We need this built, sooner rather than later.
One note, however, is that the vote was almost 50-50. Therefore the state must be very careful in proposing, planning and executing tolling projects in the future.
