Governor Gregoire has proposed a 3.6 billion transportation package to maintain roads, funded in part by a $100 fee on electric vehicles and a $1.50 fee on oil produced here.
While times are tough, something needs to be done about transportation in the state. The state is still doing well despite the recession, and is expected to come back first. However, because of neglect and the terrain transportation needs to run through, we are far behind other areas that would love to take our jobs.
However I also doubt that the funding would work. I don’t see Washington as a big oil producer, and electric cars are still in their infancy.
