I always liked those ads. Ben

Ferry Cancelations Due to Bare-Bones Workforce?

From KOMO-TV: http://www.komonews.com/news/local/Ferries-bare-bones-workforce-leading-to-additional-cancellations-171074511.html System reliability may be suffering due to running the ferries with bare-bones crews. If a member is sick the Coast Guard won’t let the ferry sail. Maybe its time to crew up the ferries again? Ben

Name The New Ferry After Ivar Haglund?

From KOMO-TV: http://tacoma.komonews.com/news/people/783639-mv-ivar-haglund-bartell-drugs-starts-petition-name-new-ferry-after-local-legend Local drugstore chain Bartells has started a petition to name one of the state’s new ferries after Ivar Haglund. I think that would be totally cool and make perfect sense. Vote here: http://www.wstc.wa.gov/news/2012/2012_0801_WSTC_Naming144carferries.htm Ben

Are Park and Pay Lots Coming?

From The Seattle Times: http://seattletimes.com/html/localnews/2018763016_soundtransit25m.html Due to overcrowding at Sound Transit’s park and rides, they are toying with the idea of charging a fee to park there. I am torn. We need people to use these systems and in all honesty most lots were not designed with high capacity despite being on high capacity lines […]

$10 Million for Northgate Bike, Pedestrian Facilities

From KOMO-TV: http://northseattle.komonews.com/news/politics/761234-council-votes-commit-10-million-northgate-bike-pedestrian-facilities The Seattle City Council will commit $10 million for pedestrian and bike improvements for the Northgate Link light rail station. This could mean a pedestrian bridge would be built across Interstate 5 to serve North Seattle Community College. This is good news. While we must ensure the station has ample parking, we […]

Battle Over Northgate Parking Garage

From KOMO-TV: http://www.komonews.com/news/local/Battle-brewing-over-Northgate-parking-garage-157138735.html A storm is brewing over a parking garage at the future Northgate light rail station. Given that this will be one of the line’s endpoints for many years, a garage is REQUIRED. Expecting that people won’t drive to the train is a dream. Let’s at least make it easy to use. Ben

Puget Sound Drivers Spent Less Time in Traffic

From The Seattle Times: http://seattletimes.nwsource.com/html/localnews/2018257418_traffic22m.html Seattle-area drivers spent an average of 33 hours on the road last year which is an improvement due to less traffic on the roads. I also wonder how much expanded road and transit projects has also helped traffic. Ben

North Sounder Shut Down Due to Mudslide

From KOMO-TV: http://www.komonews.com/news/local/Mudslide-hits-railroad-tracks-on-Seattle-waterfront-150154515.html Due to a mudslide on the Seattle Waterfront, Northbound Sounder service will be canceled for 48 hours. This always seems to happen on the North line… Ben

Mudslide Management Projects

From WSDOT: http://www.wsdot.wa.gov/Projects/Rail/slidemanagement/ WSDOT’s page on projects in process to manage and prevent landslides along the BNSF rail corridor. Every time there is a slide, normally North of Seattle it shuts down Sounder and Amtrak traffic for 48 hours. Hopefully these projects will be able to mitigate this concern. Ben

Sound Transit Identifies Route and Stations for North Link

From Sound Transit: http://www.soundtransit.org/About-Sound-Transit/News-and-events/News-releases/options-for-study-for-light-rail-to-Lynnwood.xml Sound Transit has identified a route along I-5 and potential stations at seven locations for the North Link extension to Lynnwood. It is good to see the project moving ahead. Expanding the system, especially North where there is heavy traffic on Interstate 5, can only help improve traffic and grow ridership. […]
