Testing for Elimination of Ride Free Area on Tuesday, January 31st

From Sound Transit: http://www.soundtransit.org/About-Sound-Transit/News-and-events/News-releases/DSTT-travel-time-test.xml Sound and Metro Transit will be testing travel times on buses that will no longer be free later this year. While I understand the need, eliminating the ride free zone in the tunnel is a BAD idea. Already there are delays at rush hour. What is going to happen when all [...]

Auditor to Examine Sound Transit

From The News Tribune: http://seattletimes.nwsource.com/html/localnews/2017171333_audit06.html The state auditor’s office will look at Sound Transit, including their ridership statistics and their promises to the public. I welcome an audit, but I hope they also look at things in context. For example, what is ridership like during the peak commute periods, and has it helped with traffic? [...]

TriMet Getting 55 New Buses in 2012

From the Tri-Met Blog: http://howweroll.trimet.org/2011/11/16/55-new-buses-to-join-the-fleet-in-2012/ Tri-Met will be getting 55 new low floor buses that are more efficient and include air conditioning. Four of the buses will be hybrids for testing. It is always good to see upgrades happening in heavily used systems. Ben

Pierce Transit May Shrink Boundaries

From The News Tribune: http://www.thenewstribune.com/2011/11/15/1906700/pierce-transit-may-shrink-boundaries.html Pierce Transit may shrink its boundaries, removing from its taxing areas cities it no longer serves after disastrous budget cuts. While you shouldn’t have to pay for something you don’t use, this will only make it harder to re-add service in the future. Ben

Metro Transit Getting New Trolley Buses

From the Capitol Hill Seattle blog: http://www.capitolhillseattle.com/2011/11/10/once-and-for-all-2386-million-for-new-metro-electric-trolley-buses The 2012 King County budget provides money to replace 155 electric trolley buses used in and around Seattle. The buses will also have a limited off-wire capability, something the current fleet doesn’t have. These buses were designed for hills like the ones seen in Seattle and with the [...]

Pierce Transit May Redraw Boundary Lines

From The News Tribune: http://www.thenewstribune.com/2011/11/05/1893402/transit-boundary-lines-may-be.html Due to transit cuts that have abandoned service to some outlying cities, it is possible they may pull out of the Pierce Transit funding area entirely. While I agree it does no good to pay for something you can’t use, this will just make it harder to re-add service in [...]

TRI-MET Cracking Down on Fare Evasion

From TRI-MET: http://trimet.org/news/fare-enforcement.htm  TRI-MET has increased their fare patrols and eliminated just handing out warnings. As the economy continues to worsen, taxpayers are demanding less free rides. Hopefully programs like this will work to increase farebox recovery rates. Ben
