From The News Tribune: http://www.thenewstribune.com/2012/01/15/1984053/on-a-wing-and-a-prayer.html New plans to refurbish the Tacoma Narrows Airport are underway. It is expected that private aircraft flying into town for the US Open at Chambers Bay may use the airport. The airport is an important asset for the area. It is good to see that it has a future. Ben
From The News Tribune: http://seattletimes.nwsource.com/html/localnews/2017171333_audit06.html The state auditor’s office will look at Sound Transit, including their ridership statistics and their promises to the public. I welcome an audit, but I hope they also look at things in context. For example, what is ridership like during the peak commute periods, and has it helped with traffic? [...]
From The News Tribune: http://www.thenewstribune.com/2011/12/22/1954734/new-rules-seek-to-lighten-ferry.html Due to the growing weight of people in America, capacity has been limited by about 250 passengers depending on the boat. While it is good that we are looking out for safety, it is sad that we had to raise the average weight from 160 to 185 pounds. Ben
From Transportation Issues Daily: http://www.transportationissuesdaily.com/tiger-iii-rail-projects-are-big-winners/ The government’s latest round of TIGER grants have gone primairly to rail projects. This includes both freight and passenger rail. It is good we are funding rail projects since trains both have their own right of way and can travel much faster than tire-based vehicles. Sound Transit received some of [...]
From KOMO-TV: http://www.komonews.com/news/local/Owner-Kalakala-ferry-sold-for-1-saved-from-scrap-yard-135857043.html The Kalakala was sold to an anonymous bidder who says they will refurbish it and make it able to sail again. Hopefully it will then be home ported in the Seattle area, but it could also go to California. This is good news, if it works out. The ferry is a historic [...]

From the Three Sheets Northwest Blog: http://threesheetsnw.com/blog/2011/12/kalakala-for-sale-for-1-or-best-offer/ The historic ferry Kalakala, in dire need of restoration, is now for sale for $1 or best offer. The hope is someone will purchase it and restore it. It is currently docked on the Tacoma Tideflats. Unfortunately this historic ferry may have met its end. In poor condition [...]
From WSDOT: http://www.wsdot.wa.gov/News/2011/11/30_Milepost31GrandOpening.htm A new public information center about the Alaskan Way Viaduct project called Milepost 31 has opened in Pioneer Square. The center provides information on the project and history in the area. I haven’t had a chance to go by there yet but it sounds pretty cool. Ben
From The News Tribune: http://www.thenewstribune.com/2011/11/26/1921500/port-on-watch-for-bad-containers.html Longshoremen at the Port of Tacoma are keeping an eye out for possible explosive containers from Vietnam. The containers were improperly serviced with a coolant that can explode when mixed with air. Let’s hope this work limits any incidents taking place here. Ben
