Puget Sound Transportation Projects

My thoughts on transportation in the Puget Sound area and transportation issues in general.

From The South Park News:

The New South Park Bridge got its first leaf lately. Great to see this project coming along.

Repairs have been made on one of the cracked pontoons for the new SR 520 Floating Bridge.

This is excellent news. This project is sorely needed.

A ramp meter will be added to the Soutbound entrance to Interstate 405 from Sunset Way.

From Sound Transit:
http://www.soundtransit.org/Schedules/Event-services/Washington-State-Fair

Sound Transit will be running Sounder trains from the North and South on September 14th and 21st to Puyallup where a free shuttle will take you to the fair.

This is great news since Pierce Transit canceled all their special bus service to the fair.

From The Seattle Times:
http://blogs.seattletimes.com/today/2013/09/state-supreme-court-rejects-kemper-freeman-attempt-to-stop-i-90-light-rail/

Developer Kemper Freeman’s lawsuit to stop putting light rail on the Interstate 90 floating bridge has been rejected.

This is great news. If anywhere needs reliable high speed transit it is the Eastside with Microsoft, Nintendo, Google and many other large and small tech companies.

From WSDOT:

The 50th edition of the quarterly performance report known as the “grey notebook” has been published. View some of the stats here.

From RailwayAge:
http://www.railwayage.com/index.php/intermodal/cold-train-expands-to-keep-up-with-demand.html

The Cold Train, which delivers cargo from Washington and Oregon to the East Coast, is expanding services due to demand.

Great to see more use of rail to transport goods.

A study by the University of Washington shows that half of all distracted drivers are texting.

Put the phone down!
